Farms & Stars tour 2016. Photo by Brian Chambers Photography
Join us for a summer night under the stars.

Saturday, August 18th, 2018
~4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Enjoy a summer evening at the base of Mt. Adams at the bucolic Mountain Meadows Dairy farm in Trout Lake Valley, one of Washington’s first organic dairies. We’ll meet the Schmid family and the dairy cows supplying organic milk to Portland and Vancouver markets. We’ll stop by the farm museum to see pioneer artifacts and photographs collected by the family for five generations. Views of the White Salmon River running through the valley and Mt. Adams will provide a stunning backdrop. Columbia Land Trust Executive Director Glenn Lamb will share the story of this conservation easement that ensured the farmland would remain undeveloped. As the sun sets, we’ll switch gears to enjoy the dark rural skies and stargaze with local astronomer Jim White. He’ll share telescope views of Venus and Jupiter in the western sky and Mars and Saturn to the southwest. As we gaze, we’ll enjoy a farm-style dinner and a night of pure awe.

EASY – Minimal hiking, short farm walks. Exposure to livestock.

All transportation, snacks, and dinner are provided. Transportation departs from the Columbia Land Trust Vancouver office at promptly 4:00 p.m. and returns at approximately 11:00 p.m.
