Witness the return of sandhill cranes to the Vancouver area
Fall wildlife tours continue with birdwatching opportunities at Cranes' Landing
It’s that time of year for Columbia Land Trust’s beloved sandhill crane birdwatching tours! Join us this fall as we gather on the bank of the Columbia River to admire these state endangered bids as they feed and rest for the reminder of their migration south.
Located at Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park just outside of downtown Vancouver, Washington, these tours provide a rare chance to appreciate wildlife near the Metro area. The park is the perfect location to watch as sandhill cranes fly overhead from nearby Sauvie Island to graze on the crops at Cranes’ Landing, an adjacent Land Trust site that we steward specifically for the birds.
We love seeing our community return each year for this special nature experience, but we’d also love to welcome supporters who haven’t had a chance to join us on a crane tour before. If you’ve participated in a previous crane tour, consider pausing your registration for a day or two to allow others a chance to experience the magic of Cranes’ Landing!
- Thursday, October 23rd at 4:30pm
- Friday, October 24th at 8:00am
- Saturday, October 25th at 8:00am
Update: RSVPs have filled up for these tours and online registration is now closed. For more information, please contact pcondra@columbialandtrust.org. Note that you can independently visit Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park or Blurock Landing near Vancouver and go birdwatching any time! These two parks are adjacent to our conserved farm that we manage for cranes and other birds, which we refer to as Cranes’ Landing. Cranes are most visible at sunrise and sunset from October through early April while they overwinter in the region.
