Update: Klickitat River Haul Road OPEN - Columbia Land Trust

As of September 6, 2023, fire danger has decreased and the Haul Road is now open to public access. Thank you for your cooperation

How do we decide when fire danger is high? We use the Washington Department of Natural Resource’s Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) system to determine fire danger, because they are the experts. The haul road is located in zone 609W.  The current IFPL is 3, which means the haul road is closed to public access. Access status is updated as conditions change.

How can I find out when the road closes? Go to the Washington DNR webpage (https://fortress.wa.gov/dnr/protection/ifpl/) and look up the status for zone 609W.  If it is 1 or 2, the road is open.  If it is a 3 or 4, the road is closed. We will also continue to share updates on our website.

What will happen if I go when the road is closed? Disregarding landowner wishes can lead to closures and further use restrictions. No one wants that. The haul road is regularly patrolled and you may be cited for criminal trespass by the Klickitat County Sheriff. If you accidentally start a fire, you will be held liable for suppression costs. No one wants that either. Please come enjoy the road only when open.
