Forest Legacy Program Celebrates 25 Years
Non-profits, businesses, and agencies gather in support of the Forest Legacy Program.

Land Trusts, the US Forest Service, Washington State DNR, and local landowners, held an event on Sept. 22nd to celebrate 25 years of the Forest Legacy Program, and to call for the reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The national fund enabled the conservation of Mount St. Helens’ forestlands through the Forest Legacy Program. Unfortunately, congress failed to reauthorize the funding in late September. Our Forestry Initiative Director Cherie Kearney shared some insight on the importance of LWCF in The Columbian. Read more about the event, the Forest Legacy Program, and LWCF here.
