Description of Columbia Land Trust's Forest Initiative

Dory and Rae

Forests are integral to the Pacific Northwest way of life, and a priority for Columbia Land Trust.

In addition to being home to indigenous plants and animals, forests offer natural beauty that draws visitors from around the world. Sustainable working forests provide much-needed jobs and renewable resources critical to the prosperity of local communities. Our forests are also essential to carbon sequestration —important in the fight against climate change—which benefits the entire planet.

Yet every day, acres of Pacific Northwest forestland are lost to unsustainable logging, housing developments, roads and other uses that extract resources and harm the land. Our region must address its growing population with responsible development that protects critical forest habitat while fueling local jobs and economies.
