Why this is important
Reasons the Columbia Land Trust works to conserve land
|
Conserving the lands of the Pacific
Northwest is essential to the long-term health and prosperity of our
region’s wildlife, people, and communities. The population of the
Pacific Northwest is forecasted to double in the next 50 years. With
such rapid growth, the forests, wetlands, rivers and farms are under
stress from encroaching development and overuse. The
decisions that private landowners make affect and impact our food
supply, our air and water
and our ability to see and experience nature close to home.
These lands have nurtured and sustained
us for generations, shaping our ways of life and enriching our sense
of purpose and well-being. Today, our love for this place is
something we continue to share—it defines who we are and brings us
together. We must act today to preserve its beauty and natural
resources for the benefit of future generations.
We focus our efforts on these four initiatives:
Forests Protecting our Northwest Cascade and Coastal forests that are key to local jobs and our regional ecomony.
Vital Habitats Conserving and restoring vital habitats to help fish, wildlife and people thrive.
Farmlands Saving our family farms and ranches to preserve jobs, support communities and maintain regional sources for food.
Nature Close to Home Preserving
and promoting opportunities for local communities to experience nature close to home.
