Where we work
Where does the Columbia Land Trust focus?
We focus on the Columbia River region,
stretching approximately 250 miles from east of the Cascade
Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Our
conservation area spans 14 counties—which include major population centers such
as Portland, Vancouver,
Hood River,
The Dalles and Astoria—and
is bounded by a corridor roughly 50 miles wide along the banks of the Columbia
into Oregon and Washington.
We live in a remarkable part of the world: Old growth forests thick with Douglas fir and western red cedar. Arid deserts spotted with fragrant sagebrush. Dormant volcanoes capped with year-round snow. Rivers pulsing with runs of steelhead and salmon. Marshy wetlands essential to millions of migrating birds each year. And family farms producing world-renowned fruits, vegetables and livestock. The Pacific Northwest offers stunning landscapes, abundant natural resources, productive communities and an unrivaled quality of life.
