Volunteer Work Parties – OutdoorsThroughout the year there will be several volunteer days where you can help protect and restore conservation lands. We will contact all interested volunteers to let them know what the volunteer opportunities are, and how you can help to get this important work done. Additionally, stewardship staff may contact willing volunteers from time to time to assist in accomplishing specific tasks. For each event below, contact Mila Carey-Bracke, Conservation Coordinator, at milacb@columbialandtrust.org or 360-696-0131 to sign up or find out more information. Mila will provide directions, details and carpool options upon sign up. Unless otherwise noted, please bring a sack lunch, water and your own work gloves and appropriate weather gear and footwear. Treats, tools, training and humor will be provided. To sign up for our volunteer mailing list, where you’ll be notified of office and/or outdoor volunteer events as they are planned, please complete a volunteer contact form, or give us a call! | |

Wed, June 25
| Walluski Blackberry and Yellow Flag Iris Removal, near Astoria, OR
You'll frequently see this combination of invasive plants on our "need to remove" list. Following restoration, these 90 acres will offer off-channel salmonid rearing habitat, intertidal spruce wetland habitat, intertidal marsh habitat, and improved water quality and quantity functions in the Youngs Bay watershed. Take a trip to the coast and come help us begin our weed removal quest at this site.

Wed, August 6
| Logging Camp Knapweed Pull, near Lyle, WA
This will be a follow-up visit to our beautiful Logging Camp canyon site to pull any remaining knapweed that Land Trust staff couldn't get to. It's sure to be hot and dry out there so we'll pace ourselves as we search out the last-of-the-season knapweed plants or late rosettes. Hopefully, we'll see more Lewis's Woodpeckers than knapweed!

Sat, September 6
| School House Creek Iris Dig and Blackberry Control, near Washougal, WA
We've been working to restore fish passage into the upstream portions of the property, enhance spawning opportunities and improve rearing habitat for juvenile salmonids. Our removal of non-native plants works in tandem with these important restoration activities. We'll continue to chip away at the Himalayan blackberry in the upper portions of this property and we'll also be stopping the early invasion of yellow flag iris by digging it out before it gets the upper hand.
