Haul Road Closed in Response to Fire Risk

The Department of Natural Resources has raised the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) to level 2 in the Klickitat watershed, which means the Haul Road has been closed to public entry.  As was practiced by past private landowners, and in response to neighbor and community concerns, Columbia Land Trust closes Haul Road to all unauthorized public access during periods of high fire risk and also during active construction. These closures protect resources and also public safety. The road will be reopened to access when the Department of Natural Resources determines the fire risk has fallen to Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) of level 1. This probably will occur in the time period from mid-September to early October.
The Klickitat watershed and Haul Road are within DNR’s Zone 609W. To view a map and get up-to-date information on the Industrial Fire Precaution Levels, view the easy-to-read map here:
Also note that public access on Haul Road is closed outright during periods of active construction, which may begin in late August or early September. During construction, the road may be entirely closed or a portion of the road closed, even outside the fire season. These closure periods will be posted online and on signs at the property entrances.
